I get press releases all the time. It comes with having a blog. I ignore most of them. But late yesterday I received a press release about myself, which was an odd experience. I hadn’t been in the loop for the press release, otherwise I’d have taken issue with being described as a “seasoned expert.”

Also, the ABA sent me a discount code valid for the next 48 hours. You can get 15% off the hardcover edition of the book (limited quantity, signed by me) by entering “PAB13IMAS” when checking out.

Popular legal blogger pens personal, professional road map for young lawyers

CHICAGO, Oct. 30, 2013 — Keith Lee has shown how you can become a seasoned expert on professional development for new lawyers in the shortest of times. You graduate from law school (2010), study and pass the bar, join a small law firm (Hamer Law Group LLC) and begin writing a legal blog (Associate’s Mind).

But in his new book from the American Bar Association, “The Marble and the Sculptor,” Lee writes that mastering the fundamentals of the law is no easy task. He captures his own journey and the commitment, preparation, creativity and common sense needed by new attorneys to grow personally and professionally in challenging times in the legal profession.

“The Marble and the Sculptor” is a must-read for law students and new attorneys, as well as their parents and friends. It is written from the perspective of a new attorney in the trenches and presents a fundamental understanding of what is expected of them and a framework for becoming successful both as a lawyer and in life. The book provides insights on everything from choosing classes that matter in law school to the importance of writing well, attracting clients and avoiding the basic mistakes in your first job at a law firm.

“In today’s challenging and rapidly changing legal profession, young lawyers need guidance and advice more than ever,” said David Lat, founder and managing editor of the popular blog Above the Law. “In ‘The Marble and the Sculptor,’ … Lee ranges across many fields, from management to martial arts, to gather insights and tips for his readers. If you’ve spent three years and a small fortune to obtain a law degree, buy this book so you can make the most of your expensive education.”

Lee practices law in Birmingham, Ala., where he received both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees. He advises individuals and business clients on estate planning, contract disputes, litigation, intellectual property and other matters.
